Kindles

There are 2 Kindles available from Amazon now.  (I am not considering earlier models, only current models as of 2009/2010)

The one I have:

Amazon Kindle Ebook Reader - 6" Display - Global

Amazon Kindle Ebook Reader - 6" Display - Global

This Kindle is the smaller screensize model… the screen is roughly the size of a paperback book’s page.

It is called Global because prior to this model, if you had a Kindle the wireless feature would only work within the US.  Now, with this model, you can connect wirelessly to the Kindle Store and download books from almost no matter where in the world you are.  This is a GREAT feature if you work overseas and don’t get home very often.

It costs $259 and now ships just about anywhere in the world.

Kindle Ebook Reader - 9.7" Display - US Wireless

Kindle Ebook Reader - 9.7" Display - US Wireless

This is the larger sized Kindle, with a magnificent screen… Its like looking at a magazine page.  The reason this Kindle is so nice is that if you have pdfs with diagrams, photos or other graphics, they show up large and completely visible in this Kindle.  This Kindle is great for seeing newpapers, magazines, journals and books.

It is not yet available in a global wireless version, but if you travel overseas with your laptop, that doesn’t make a whole lot of difference.  You can download any book you buy from the Kindle Store to your laptop, and then just hook up the usb cable from your Kindle to your laptop and download the book to your Kindle that way.  Of course, you can always stock up on ebooks before you go too.

This Kindle costs $489 – It ain’t cheap, but you won’t be sorry you bought it.
